About Eleanor (she/her)
Eleanor is an associate therapist at ED and OCD Therapy. She understands that therapy is much more than an hour of talking; it is a courageous, vulnerable and deeply personal commitment to understanding your inner world, your patterns and stuck points. She creates a warm and judgement free space to explore emotions, unconscious beliefs, behaviors and experiences to promote healing and recovery from eating disorders.
Eleanor aims to understand her client’s world through their eyes- therapy is not prescriptive with her, as each person is unique. She also recognizes the impact of cultural, relational and systemic factors on mental health and identity. She helps clients explore these aspects of their experience and how they relate to struggles with food and body. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in psychodynamic, relational-cultural and mindfulness-based practices— with the goal of fostering greater self awareness, self-trust, resilience and connection within yourself and the relationships important to you that make life meaningful. All of this helps her clients live more freely and authentically, so that the eating disorder is no longer needed as a way to cope.
Eleanor has a strong background working with teens and adults with eating disorders and body image issues across partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient levels of care. She understands that eating disorders are complex, confusing and often isolating experiences. She also understands recovery is not linear, it takes time and has many ups and downs.
Eleanor recognizes that eating disorders are much more than issues with control; they are shaped by broader societal influences, including: diet culture, social media, unrealistic beauty standards, weight stigma and any form of body based oppression. They are also influenced by experiences of trauma, family of origin wounds and individual personality and core belief systems. She works collaboratively with clients to build a more compassionate relationship with themselves and advocates for both evidence-based treatment and lived experience wisdom. She incorporates compassion, patience, creativity, art and humor to help a difficult process feel more human and hopeful.
Eleanor received her B.A. in Psychological Sciences from UC Irvine and her M.A. and M.Ed in Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University. In addition to her education, Eleanor continues to promote a positive mind-body connection as a certified yoga instructor with specialized training in trauma-informed yoga. She welcomes people of all ages, race, gender, sexual orientations, and abilities into the space, both virtually and in-person.
